About TKG Group

Reconciliation through Business and Economic Development.

Our Background

Thawikayhigan LP (TKG) is a 100% First Nations owned company created by the Chiefs and leadership of six First Nations — Kingfisher Lake, Kasabonika Lake, Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug, Wapekeka, Wawakapewin, and Wunnumin Lake. Founded in 2018, TKG was originally established to help secure and deliver contract work through the Watay Power Project — a major infrastructure initiative connecting remote northern communities to the provincial power grid.

Since then, TKG has grown into a trusted general contractor and project partner, securing more than 20 contracts and building strong alliances with industry leaders like Valard Construction LP. These partnerships take on many forms — including limited partnerships, joint ventures, service contracts, and supply agreements — but all share one goal: creating long-term economic opportunities for First Nations.

Today, we refer to these ongoing opportunities as our “legacy work” — projects and partnerships that not only provide employment and revenue now but also help build a more independent, sustainable future for our communities.

Strategic Plan, Vision and Direction

At TKG, our vision is to build a self-sustaining, community-led supply chain that empowers First Nations across Northern Ontario. As a 100% First Nations owned company, guided by the Chiefs of our six founding First Nations, our strategic direction is grounded in community priorities, long-term planning, and economic sovereignty.

We are committed to developing and regularly reviewing a clear, effective strategic plan — one that reflects the voices of our communities and evolves as their needs do. Through community consultation and annual review, our leadership ensures that every move we make is aligned with the collective goals of the people we serve.

Our focus moving forward is on expanding high-impact services like bulk fuel delivery, winter road logistics, product procurement, and new community partnerships. These priorities are not just business goals — they are part of a larger effort to improve access, reduce costs, and return value directly to the First Nations who own and guide this company.

By staying focused, transparent, and responsive, TKG is creating a legacy of opportunity — building a stronger North, together.

Communication and Consultation

  • TKG will develop a clear and strategic communications plan to ensure timely and transparent updates about our activities are shared with TKG Group LP communities, Chiefs and Councils, and the TKG Board of Directors.

  • TKG is committed to ongoing, meaningful consultation with our partner communities, their leadership, and our board. Regular engagement ensures that our direction continues to reflect the priorities and voices of the people we serve.

  • Each member of the TKG Board of Directors is responsible for keeping their respective First Nation informed. This includes direct communication with community members, Chiefs, and Council.

  • TKG will actively conduct community visits to both gather local knowledge and share updates, providing education on current initiatives and long-term plans.

  • We will use a variety of communication tools — including print, digital media, and in-person events — to meet our goals for outreach, education, promotion, and orientation.
